The Sorrento Patron Saint, Saint Anthony Abate, is celebrated on February 14th, at the same time as the national St. Valentine Feast.
A secular religious feast but with numerous and interesting folk sides, every year masterfully organized by the Town Council and by the Tourist Board.
The legend tells that following the apparition of the archangel Michael and by his order, St. Anthony, who at that time was monk, made build in Sorrento an imposing Basilica, still today among the most visited historical religious and architectural beauties of the town.
To open the celebrations, the day before, on February 13th, the city band will perform along the city roards in its classical musical repertoire.
On February 14th in the morning there will be the suggestive procession along the main Sorrento streets, with the Saint Patron silver statue. After the procession the statue gets back in the Basilica, where the mass will be celebrated.
At the end of the celebrations there will be a wonderful fire works show from the sea.
So this day, on February 14th, is one of the most beautiful day to visit the Mermaids' Earth and to plunge in the magician atmosphere of the Saint Patron celebrations.
